Cantor Redfern’s Biography

Yehoshua Redfern’s special ruach reaches out and embraces enthusiastic audiences up and down the Eastern seaboard. A composer and concert artist, Cantor Redfern blends traditional sounds of the synagogue with upbeat Neo-chassidic sounds. This innovative approach to Jewish music is perfected in Yehoshua’s diverse repertoire of Cantorial, Yiddish, Chassidic, Operatic, Neo-Chassidic and Israeli melodies.

Cantor Redfern’s lyric tenor voice has been heard in concert halls, synagogues, and coffee houses in New York, San Diego, Toronto, Chicago, Baltimore and Jerusalem. He has performed in concert with some of the great cantors and singers of the late twentieth and early twenty first century including: Ben Zion Miller, Asher Heinovitz, Yaakov Moetzen, Avi Albrecht, Jeffrey Nadel, and Reb Shlomo Carlebach of blessed memory.

He has performed at the Baltimore and Annapolis Jewish Festivals, and throughout the Baltimore and Washington DC area. Cantor Redfern performed at a mass rally in support of Israel in Washington DC. He is a soloist for Zemer Chai, Washington DC’s Jewish community chorus. Cantor Redfern has produced two outstanding professional recordings: Kol Yehoshua, and Kol Yehoshua II. Most recently Yehoshua was chosen as a finalist in the first ever Cantorial Talent Search Concert presented by Cantors World which was held in Borough Park, Brooklyn, NY March, 20,2005. Cantor Redfern studies voice and chazzanut with Cantor Daniel Gildar of Philadelphia, PA.

Cantor Redfern can offer a full evening of entertainment or be the performer of a fund raising dinner, or perform with his guitar or be accompanied on the piano for a senior citizen center.
